Interview with Amira brown. A contemporary artist.

WHAT IS CONTEMPORARY ART? WHY CAN IT BE SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND?

Let me know you a little about it. Its important to know what "contemporary art" really is to truly appreciate it.

The term is loosely used to refer to art of the present day. Artist who are living in the twenty-first century work in a culturally diversed world.Working in a wide range of mediums, these artist reflects and comment on a modern society.

Q/A session with Amira Brown.

Q1- The first question is probably the most ask by many: At what age have you started making art and what motivated you to keep going?

AB: I’ve been making art  since I could hold a pencil but stayed motivated by my skill as well as the lack of my skill. Now I’m motivated on how I far I can push my skills and techniques over time.

Q2- Could you please tell us more about yourself and your art practices?

AB: Well, My subjects mainly revolve around figurative abstraction and how I can apply the paint in varied and new ways to reflect the personality and qualities within. I started out as an illustrator and used that background as my push off point.

Q3- What about your style? How did you develop it and are you happy with what you've got so far?

AB: Lol, I don’t think I’ve ever been happy with the style I’ve developed because the minute I settle, there’s another way I want to experiment and expand on my work.

                   " ALL DRESSED UP"

Q4- I find that having an artist to admire is very helpful in developing one's art skills! Who are your top fav artist?

AB: Right now Trenton Doyle Hancock, Tschabalala Self, Devin Morris and many more.

Q5- What about themes of your paintings? Can you tell us about your inspiration?

AB: My inspiration mainly comes from contemporary art, nature as well as the objects and items in my environment.

Q6- Have you finished art school? How important do you think they are? Or you're self taught artist?

AB: I have finished art school and I’m now pursuing graduate school. I think art school can be useful to some and sometimes not others, but I think there are many alternatives to the traditional route now that can get you where you want to go.

Q7- Do you come from an artistic family?

AB: Actually yes! I have many creative family members who draw, paint and design, or if they don’t do those, they express it through other means. It makes me very happy to continue that lineage.

"OVER GROWN"

Q8- How would you describe your personal style to those who are unfamiliar with your work?

AB: Loosely humanoid and very textural and symbolic.

Q9- Which current art world trends like (inktober) are you following?

AB:  At the moment none really, just focusing on my craft. I used to before while in school and it was always a great exercise.

Q10- Anything else you would like to share with our readers? Anything motivational some tips or info ideas or wishes?

AB: Don’t be afraid to try and implement new ideas, and fail faster so you can grow faster!

Q11- Where can our reader find more about you?

Monochromatic Artist.

ARTIST SUMRAH RASUL

Today we're pleased to introduce our monochromatic artist Sumrah Rasul. How many colors do you need to create art? Sometimes, just one. In this Q/A we'll explore what monochromatic art is and checkout Sumrah's work and thoughts about her art.

MONOCHROMATIC ART

When you ask people what they love most about paintings, one of the most commom responses is the color. But some artist, however, think differently. They seek to create the same kind of response by using only one color.

A monochrome painting is a work of art that consists of a single color. In fact, the word  monochrome literally means "single color". It's a diffrent approach to art but one that's used more widely than you might think.

Ok now we're moving on to our Q/A session.

Q1- Can you tell me a little about you and your art?

SUMRAH: I'm 21 and my name is Sumrah Rasul. I'm a medical student. Art is my passion. Tho I didn't get a chance to learn or study it properly in some institution but I learn from others as much I can. I made a sketching page few years back on Insta and I do take sketching orders. I mostly do faces and portraits and all monochrome. I hope I get better with time.

Q2- What is your style or medium of art?

SUMRAH: I draw on A4 mostly but for people  I do it on scholar sheet so that it's big enough to frame and hang on a wall.

Q3- Should artist focus on one art medium?

SUMRAH: Personally I want to try everything, ideally. but it's hard along with studies and stuff so I focus only on one. If someone can try more, they should.

Q4- Are you self taught or do you have formal training?

SUMRAH: Self taught.

Q5- Do you think that today art is unappreciated?

SUMRAH: Art is appreciated but not all artists are encouraged I must say😂

Q6- Who's your most fav artist?

SUMRAH: Pablo Picasso, Leonardo da Vinci

Q7- Why do you start making art and how?

SUMRAH: I was good at drawing and stuff from the very start. And my fellows appreciated it so I was  encouraged. So I kept on going, learned from others as well, tried to correct  my mistakes. As I mostly do portraits and my parents don't like it ( some religious believes) I sometimes shift towards still art. I do that pretty fine as well but I don't enjoy it. I like making portraits 😌

Q8- How long have you been creating artworks with pencil?

SUMRAH: As I said from childhood I was good at it. But I kinda started focusing on it about a few years ago. It's been two years since I got acceptably better at sketching.

Q9- What are your tools of choice (medium, brands)?

SUMRAH: As I only do monochrome all I need is black pencils. From 2H to 8B I use all with charcoal and sometimes I use black pointer  for dark effects. I draw on scholar sheet and A4.

Q10- What is the best way to get in touch with you Sumrah?

SUMRAH: I have Insta page dedicated to only art. You can contact me there.
It is: ultrasmartist

THANKYOU SO VERY MUCH SUMRAH FOR YOUR PRECIOUS TIME.
BEST OF LUCK.

Artist Naveer bin Razi

Artist: Naveer Bin Razi

Q1 - Can you tell me a little about you and your art?

Naveer - Well there's not a lot about me but yes lets talk about art I have been doing all this stuff since 3rd grade, took part in competitions, started from eid card competitions then never looked back and never stopped kept exploring and I guess I still haven't explored most of it which I wish to do in the coming years.

Q2 - What is your style or medium of art?

Naveer - Well I never held on to any single medium, the exploring trait has made me switch to different mediums and try them out and see how they turn out to be.

Q3 - Should artist focus on one art medium?

Naveer - Explore when you are young, focus on one when you have tried them all.

Q4 - Are you self taught or do you have formal training?

Naveer - Self taught, you don't go out exploring things in a classroom that happens in your room, backyard, in open air.

Q5 - Do you think that today art is unappreciated?

Naveer - I won't say unappreciated there people who notice but young artist are usually ignored and the giants prefer the ones they know somehow that I believe is wrong and should not happen, good art piece must be appreciated.

Q6 - Who's your most fav artist?

Naveer: Vincent Van Gogh  | Tahir Bin Qalander | YBQ

Q7 - Why do you start making art and how?

Naveer: Well when I feel like holding a pencil there are times when I don't draw or sketch till months but then someday I just feel it and open the book.

Q8 - Where would you say you gained most of your skills as an artist? In or out of art class?

Naveer In class I learned procedures, outside the class I explored them. Class learning means you will have to follow a pattern to achieve something or some result what if that pattern is not favorable for me why can I not make my own pattern? I can. So most of it came outside the class.
